The Amphibians and Reptiles of Cyprus

49.00

?? For an island of its size, Cyprus has a diverse collection of reptiles, with 11 species of lizards, at least eight species of snakes, two sea turtles and one freshwater terrapin. Surprisingly for such a dry country, it also has two frog species and one toad. Almost half of these reptiles and amphibians are endemic, i.e. unique to the island, at the species or sub-species level.

? “The Amphibians and Reptiles of Cyprus” provides a detailed and fully illustrated field guide to the species found on the island, with scientific information summarising the state of knowledge about them. Aimed at non-specialists as well as scientists, it aims to correct some of the common misconceptions especially about snakes. The reader will be able to identify any species encountered, and separate the dangerous (only the Blunt-nosed Viper poses any danger to humans) from other species which are harmless to us. All have their role to play in our island ecosystem.
